May 19th, 2023: Camping in the mini bus on Minnesota’s North Shore.

Day One:

After deciding we need to get away for a bit we decided to head north to see the rushing rivers of Northern Minnesota. We loaded up the dogs, gear, food and bevies in the mini bus and started our way north! I sadly didn’t take any pictures of the bus loaded up but will do better documenting in the future!

We got to our first stop Gooseberry Falls State Park and set up camp. Which is literally level out the bus and get some chairs out! We really liked the simplicity of the bus for that fact. The only things I can think of that I would have changed on the bus is: Have A/C, an awning, get a better co-pilot chair and if we had a scooter or small motorcycle so we could go adventure without the bus. We got a nice little site that was pretty secluded for a State Park.

After setting up camp and getting comfy we hiked around the park all day, played on the rocks and looked at the lake. Smelling the fresh lake air and feeling the cool breeze the warm sun instantly puts us into a state of Zen and contentment. It was a beautiful day that we’re thankful to have enjoyed together.

That night after dinner we are sitting around the fire talking about life and feeling relaxed and we start to see a slight green glow through the trees and on the horizon. We grab our tripods, leave our campsite and try to find a better opening. We stumbled upon one of the best northern lights displays we’ve ever seen.

Needless to say we stayed up for the remainder of the show and then skeedaddled back to the site to wind down and hit the hay.

Day Two:

We woke up, had some coffee and hit the road. Our first stop was Tettegouche State Park wayside stop which in our opinion is always work a wander. The building is amazing and they have all the usual things that busier state parks have: gift shop, bathrooms, knowledgeable staff and this one has one heck of a view.

After Tettegouche we hit 61 and stopped at Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center. This was both of our first time here. It was pretty and a nice little walk to stretch the legs.

After Sugarloaf we then proceeded to our final destination for the day. Temperance River State Park. We pulled into our site which was really a huge let down and a bummer. The photos online were nothing like the actual site. There was a walking path and an open field that butted up to our campsite. We decided to walk it off headed for the hiking trails and ended on the rocks.

What a beauty of a trip. I’m just so grateful that I get to do these kinds of things with my best friend!
